Body & Mind

‘learning by doing and thinking’

Active learning experiences are at the heart of STEAM-CT, for example, using experimentation, working together, designing prototypes and producing artifacts to solve the problem. During these learning processes, students have to act and think logically, critically, creatively, … (Park & Green, 2019). Hands-on experiences are integrated with the mind’s work (Zemelman, Daniels, & Hyde, 2005). A right balance is needed between the use of senses to acquire insights and the in-depth thinking process that needs to happen to make the learning significant and enable the interiorization of the physical experience.
